Igusa Rush Bottle Bag

Each bottle basket bag is handcrafted by Ryuki sunami, the fifth generation of the Toru Sunami Shoten, Okayama, established in 1886. $38

Material

Igusa breathes. It has unique characteristics of a natural material that stretches and shrinks depending on humidity. The color gradually changes over time.

Usage

The bag was originally made to refill soy sauce bottles for soy sauce makers, and is still used for that purpose by the Kakunan family. The bags are used for wine, sake, seasonings, fruits and vegetables, and some people even put dried flowers in them to decorate their walls.

Made of 100% Igusa rushes.

Igusa is known as the raw material for tatami mats. Sunami uses rushes, which are too short for making tatami mats, to weave ropes to make baskets, noren (curtain), and various other folk crafts.
