1. “Soen” is an “Imaginary” cafe/store that celebrates small joys and discoveries of everyday life of Japanese culture along with speciality food served through our “virtual” window.

Sometimes transforming into an gallery, workshop space, or pop-up store between on and offline, we aim to transcend physical distance and create a space where people and objects organically interact with each other with a shared interest in niche Japanese culture.

  • Interviewing with Japanese makers, artists, and farmers about their philosophies and backgrounds.

  • Introducing Japanese food culture and customs in daily life through stories and pop-up stores/workshops.

  • Sharing the wisdom and recipes of Japanese home cooking

  • Exhibition and store of contemporary art, folk art and products we love

    etc.

In common with all of these, what we value is Japan's unique culture that respects the invisible and the formless.

We would like to share with you the people, stores, and things that strike a chord with Soen, and their backgrounds in various forms.

Why an "imaginary" cafe?

Because the stories, scenes, and dishes that are shared here both on and offline are the same as if we had a brick-and-mortar, and those are the ones we would want to tell, decorate, and serve you through our real counter.

Imagination and Reality.

Japan and beyond.

Small discoveries and joys hidden in everyday life.

Soen exists in the middle of all these things.
